MARIÁNSKÁ TÝNICE – Pilgrimage Site, Museum and Galery
The pilgrimage site of Mariánská Týnice near Kralovice is an architectural gem boasting the highly baroque architecture of Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel. The concept of a proportionally perfect building was fully realized in 2021 with a completely unusual completion. Now two ambits with Marian chapels, equipped with rich fresco painting, symmetrically complement the monumental church of the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary, constructed on the floor plan of a Greek cross. This national cultural monument is the headquarters of the Museum and Gallery of Northern Pilsen Region. In the adjacent provostship, you can visit museum expositions focused on learning about life in the past as well as on the culture and education of the local region. The work of architect J.B. Santini is represented by a separate multimedia
exhibition. The refectory hall, a former monastic dining room with fresco decoration, is a place for seasonal exhibitions and concerts. The place of pilgrimage is remarkably set in a landscape with a number of small monuments, unique farm yards and other places related to the activities of the Cistercian monastery in Plasy, which cultivated the local region for centuries.
