The city Luze is a small vibrant town in the valley of the Novohradka River near Litomysl, which originated in the 13th century after the founding of Kosumberk Castle. Luze boasts not only many monuments, but also the surrounding countryside inviting for walking.
Castle Kosumberk
The castle from the half of the 13th century, whose owner was also the family of Slavats, is one of the city dominants. Even though today we talk about the ruins, the castle offers to the visitors not only an interesting interior exposition, but also the beautiful view of the distant surroundings. Since 1991, the castle is owned by the city Luze and revives so the nearly year-round by series of events such as exhibitions, theatres, concerts, and also became a popular place for wedding ceremonies.
Church of Our Lady on Chlumek
Church of Our Lady on Chlumek is one of the greatest Baroque churches in Central Europe, which was consecrated in 1696 and became a regional pilgrimage site, which during pilgrimages is daily visited by hundreds of visitors. Although its location dominates the city, thanks to a modern lift it is easily accessible.
Jewish Monuments
In the city centre, the Jewish ancestors are commemorated by a synagogue, which was used by Jewish residents until 1940. It currently serves as an exhibition space reminiscent the Jewish local culture. Jewish cemetery is located near the city and is freely accessible. The oldest preserved tombstones are from the 17th century.
Hamza Sanatorium
Thanks to a clean air and surrounding countryside, the sanatorium was founded here 110 years ago by Dr. Hamza, which is still of great importance. With respect to the extent of this facility, there is the Hamza Park and Arboretum within its range, through which the nature trail leads representing the woody species from four continents. In Luze, which is crossed by many biking and hiking trails, you will fi nd also many other smaller monuments, observation tower and parks, so it is a good place for your family vacation. In 2022, a new educational trail KRAJEM SLAVATŮ with four circuits was created in Luže.
