The city location 750 – 1.000 m altitude provides the ideal conditions for holidays all over the year. For years it is the biggest tourist resort in Šumava Mountains. Several museums and monuments are not missing here. The local brewery or educational trails are also attractive. As to the countryside beauties, several glacial lakes and peaks can delight you, of whichto Pancíř and Špičák the chair-lift leads and both boast of lookout. A big plus is also the proximity to the border with Germany and therefore the Bavarian Forest. The Železná Ruda region also lives with cultural and sporting events throughout the year. In the centre of the city there is the Šumava Visitor Centre with the Tourist Information Centre and the Environmental Centre.
