Castles Žebrák and Točník
Near the highway on the outskirts of Pilsen former hunting forest of Czech kings you can fi nd two castles Žebrák and Točník located close to each other. The
lower Castle Žebrák is older and was established by its lords Zajíc from Valdek in the 13th century. A century later it became a royal property. The Czech and Roman
King Wenceslas IV. he gave in the late 14th century to built the upper castle Točník. It was a comfortable and noble mansion, which the king also allowed to get rid of
duties as a king and unleash the passion for hunting. Both castles were destroyed by the local population, when founding the refuge on them during the Thirty Years’
War from the Swedes. The further destruction of castles was caused by hunters of famous treasure of Točník. Today, both castle are the national cultural monuments
and in property of state. In the brewery under the castle Žebrák was born the last Czech alchemist and brewer Otakar Zachar (died in 1924).
