A picturesque town with a rich history forming the southern gateway to the Bohemian Paradise.
The city is located 80 km from Prague in the northeast direction between Mlada Boleslav and Jičín in the Královehradecký region. The landmarks of the city include the Humprecht Castle and the birthplace of the poet Fráňa Šrámek, which serves as a museum. Every year in the fi rst week of July, you can look forward to the pageant festival of the Czech language, speech and literature – The Šrámek’s Sobotka. The oldest monument of the city is the church of St. Mary Magdalene from the 14th century. On the contrary, the youngest monument here is the architectural building called The House Under the Crescent, the author of which is the Italian sculptor Claudio Parmiggiani. Here you can also see the preserved historical part of the city, which is made up of still-inhabited log cabins.
