Deštná - the town of two museums, is located near Jindřichov Hradec, near the Červená Lhota Castle. The axis of the landscape is formed by the Dírenský stream fl owing all the way to Lužnica.
The name Deštná is attributed to the rainy landscape, or it comes from the Old Slavic expression “rainy”, i.e. perched forest. The period of permanent settlement of Deštná was in the second half of the 12th century. In the 13th century, German colonists founded an originally Romanesque church here and dedicated it to Saint Otton, the bishop of Bamber. At the end of the 16th century, a spring of mineral water was discovered here and the church of St. John the Baptist was built over it. On the square there is a baroque fountain with a statue of an angel from 1888, stone column and fountain from 1658 and a memorial to the fallen of both world wars. Music composer Karel Ditters from Dittersdorf spent his last years in nearby Nový Dvůr, he is buried in the local cemetery. The town of Deštná administrates two museums - the Aviation Museum and the Karel Klik Rope Museum.
